| Rule 1 | Costumes must be hand made. |
| Rule 2 | Costumes must not exceed budget, much. |
| Rule 3 |
Overcoats are not permitted unless part of the costume. |
| Rule 4 |
Costumes must include storage for keys and cash. |
| Rule 5 | The costume, especially any gloves or arm decoration, must permit manipulation of a full pint glass |

Straws or other drinking aids are permitted. |
| Rule 6 | Costumes must provide a minimum level of insulation until beer coats set in. |
| Rule 7 | Costumes must be sufficiently robust to remain intact and presentable when jostling for position in a crowded bar. |
| Rule 8 | Costumes must enable visits to the Gents/Ladies without removal. |
